Alpaca Shearing

This was an exciting day for me. I would love to raise Alpaca but after experiencing all of shearing day I am not so sure anymore Haha. A friend of the family owns 14 and they were all getting the salon treatment of haircuts and nail clippings.

I am an avid animal lover and it was hard for me to see these guys picked up and flipped over and strapped down. But if they aren’t then they cannot get trimmed. If an Alpaca isn’t shaved then when summer comes around it’s only a matter of time before they have a heat stroke because there is no airflow in their fiber. And since they are very against being shaved there was no choice.

This guy is waiting for a haircut but wants to be back with his buddies.

The one that looks like they have eye liner on is Silver Bullet. He produces a beautiful blue/gray fiber.

Cuties just hanging out waiting reluctantly.

This is Buster. He produces a beautiful dark caramel color fiber that hank a kink to it.

Puppy tired from all of the excitement. He was running through the mud and everything.

And I get to learn how to wash the fiber (and make sure not to accidentally felt it in the process) and then get it carded for spinning. I can’t wait. Thank you so much for our friend Tracy for letting me experience this and for being so generous in gifting me with 2 BAGS of fiber ❤️❤️❤️ I can’t wait!!! I’ll post pictures and whatnot on the progress.
